Police continued to search for a Toronto man on Monday, after an intense weekend search failed to track down the suspect connected with the brutal assault of a five-month-old child.

Police said officers were working overtime over the weekend, after the boy was brought to Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children clinging to life, a week ago.

The boy is still in critical condition and remains on life support. The child's aunt said the infant had to undergo three hours of brain surgery.

Doctors will be meeting to discuss the case today.

Police are looking for the mother of the boy's live-in boyfriend, Ronnie Munoz-Hernandez, 21. He had recently moved into the family's west-end highrise apartment.

He was alone with the boy last Saturday when police believe the injuries occurred. The boy was not taken to hospital right away.

The aunt said the mother found her son unresponsive the next day. She and Munoz-Hernandez then brought the child to hospital. But after the boy was taken in by emergency doctors, Munoz-Hernandez quietly walked out of the hospital.

Police are seeking Munoz-Hernandez on a charge of aggravated assault.

None of the allegations against Munoz-Hernandez have been proven in court.
