ST. CATHARINES, Ont. -- A Niagara Region police officer is recovering from wrist and shoulder injuries after being clipped by an SUV at a traffic stop on Wednesday.

Police say the officer was directing traffic at an accident scene near St. Catharines and was wearing a reflective jacket and using a flashlight at the time.

Police say the officer tried to direct an SUV away from the collision but was struck by the vehicle, which continued on until it was stopped a short distance away by other officers.

Police say Jordyn Acaster of Pelham was arrested and faces several charges, including impaired operation of a motor vehicle and impaired causing bodily harm.

The unidentified police officer was treated for the injuries and released from hospital.
