A man wanted in connection with an armed sexual assault in downtown Toronto has been arrested in Montreal, police say.

The assault occurred shortly before midnight on Nov. 6 in the area of Yonge and Alexander Streets.

According to Toronto police, a 28-year-old woman was approached by a man and taken behind a building at gunpoint. Her hands were bound and she was sexually assaulted, Toronto Police Acting Insp. Joanne Rudnick said at a news conference last Thursday.

The suspect fled when three men exited a cab nearby. The men helped the woman and called police. She was then taken to hospital.

Brennan Wayne Guigue, 45, was arrested by Montreal police on Saturday evening.

Police said that the same man was wanted in connection with a robbery from Nov. 17.

The robbery occurred shortly after 3 a.m. on Saturday at a restaurant in the King Street East and Sherbourne Street area.

Police said a man walked into the restaurant, pulled out a firearm and demanded money from an employee before fleeing.

Montreal police say the Guigue was in possession of illegal substances and a stolen vehicle at the time of his arrest.

Guigue is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
