A man is in custody after Toronto police responded to a gun call that put a daycare centre in lockdown and two schools in a hold and secure situation Friday morning.

The man, who is in his late 20s, was taken into custody by the emergency task force at an apartment building on York Gate Boulevard, near Jane Street and Finch Avenue West.

Police received a call at 8 a.m. that someone in an apartment suite was armed with a gun. Police spokesman Const. Victor Kwong said police seized a replica firearm.

As a precaution, a daycare centre on the ground floor of the building was locked down and two nearby schools - Gosford Public School and St. Charles Garnier Catholic School - were placed in a hold and secure.

The lockdown and hold and secures ended at about 10 a.m. after the man was taken into custody. Paramedics transported him to hospital so he could be assessed by medical staff.
