HAMILTON, Ont. - Hamilton city council has reaffirmed the downtown West Harbour site as the location for a new stadium, but two councillors have pulled their support for the project.
Thursday's ratification vote was 10-6 in favour of the West Harbour location over the East Mountain. Tuesday's count at the committee level was 12-3.
Councillors Terry Whitehead and Tom Jackson changed their votes Friday and Brad Clark, who didn't attend Tuesday's session, also voted no.
The stadium is slated to play host to the Pan American Games in August 2015 and was to become the new home of the CFL's Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
But Ticats owner Bob Young wanted the new building at the East Mountain site and pulled his support of the project earlier this week. The move puts the Ticats' future in the city in doubt because their lease at aging Ivor Wynne Stadium is up after next season.
Whitehead says the chances of a successful development without the backing of the Ticats are "slim to none."
The stadium plan still needs approval from the Pan Am Games organizers as well as the federal and provincial governments.
