A 25-year-old male driver was killed Friday morning in a horrific single-vehicle crash on Highway 427.
According to a CTV reporter on the scene the man lost control of his vehicle around 1:30 a.m. The car, an Audi, left the road and went up a grassy embankment before rolling over several times and ending up back on the highway.
The driver, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, was ejected and thrown to the middle of the highway. He was then run over by at least one vehicle, said Ontario Provincial Police spokesperson Sgt. Dave Woodford. He added that he doesn't believe the victim was wearing a seatbelt.
A truck driver, who stopped to help, found the victim and covered the body in a blanket. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene when emergency service officers arrived on location.
The highway's southbound lanes were closed between Finch Avenue West and Derry Road/Rexdale Boulevard until 6:50 a.m. to allow police to carry out an investigation.
Police say one driver ignored the barricade and drove through the scene after claiming to be rushing to catch a flight. That driver is now facing charges.
