An elderly woman was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries after being pulled from an apartment fire in the Davisville Village area Christmas Eve.

Crews were called to an apartment building near Yonge Street and Davisville Avenue shortly after 10:30 p.m. for reports of a fire.

Platoon Chief Pat Howlett told CP24 that firefighters were met with smoke and fire upon arrival at the unit.

Video submitted to CP24 by a viewer showed heavy flames and smoke coming from one of the units.

“Crews made their way up to one of the units and removed one patient.  The patient was transported to the hospital via emergency run with our partners from Toronto paramedics and Toronto Police,” Howlett said.

Toronto police said a woman in her 80s was rushed to hospital via emergency run with life-threatening injuries.

The building was evacuated but residents have since been allowed to return, Howlett said.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.

Howlett said investigators have been called in to probe the fire.
