Police are searching for two women wanted in connection with a spree of brazen daylight thefts of wallets from older women in North York and Toronto.

At least nine thefts have been reported with most occurring along the Yonge-University subway line, police said on Wednesday.

Police said that the two women stand close to their victims and memorize the PIN as the victim enters it while using a debit machine or ATM.

The women then steal the victim's wallet right out of her purse or by following and confronting the victim.

Police said that in some cases the women used a sharp object to slice open the victim's purse to obtain the wallet.

The women use the PIN to withdraw cash from the victim's account at a nearby ATM.

The suspects are described as white, between the ages of 20 to 36, both with slim builds and straight, dark-brown hair.

One suspect carries a medium sized light-coloured or beige shoulder bag and the other a dark-coloured shoulder bag with outer pockets.

The suspects have also worn large sunglasses, hats and scarves to pull over the lower part of their face.

Police said they have investigated several similar thefts that date back to at least the beginning of this year.
