Toronto Police say two suspects in a murder from last July have been returned to Canada from Mexico.

"On Thursday, May 6, 2010, Ana Laura Rodriguez, 20, and Juan Antonio Reyes, 24, were returned to Toronto from Mexico City by officers of the Toronto Police Service homicide squad," they said in a news release issued Friday.

Rodriguez, 20, and Reyes, 24 -- both Mexico City residents -- are each facing a charge of first-degree murder in connection with the death of Consuelo Valencia-Russo, 44, of Toronto.

Valencia-Russo's body was found July 9 inside a parked vehicle left in the area of Jane Street and Sheppard Avenue West, making her the 27th homicide victim of 2009.

She had been missing for two days. Valencia-Russo is an ex-wife of Toronto city councillor Cesar Palacio. The two have a teenaged son.

The police named Rodriguez and Reyes as suspects two days after Valencia-Russo's body was found.

In early December, authorities in Mexico announced the arrest of the duo and the commencement of extradition proceedings.

Rodriguez and Reyes were scheduled to make court appearances on Friday.

No allegations against them have been proven in a court of law.
