A Toronto teen with terminal cancer has captured the hearts of thousands with her version of pop star Katy Perry's single "Roar," and now it has caught the attention of the star herself.
Olivia Wise, 16, posted a video of her rendition on YouTube, where it quickly made the rounds on social media.
In the video, the teen -- who was diagnosed with brain cancer almost two years ago -- is seen singing in a recording studio while her mother and sister watch and cheer her on.
When she recorded the song in September, Wise was wheelchair-bound and she didn't have her full breath. But despite her physical condition, she poured her heart into her version of Perry's hit song.
Since it was posted online earlier this month, Wise's video has accumulated more than 150,000 views on YouTube.
And then, earlier this week, Wise learned that Perry herself was among the audience.
Perry reached out to the teen in a video message also posted to YouTube.
"I just wanted to reach back out to you and tell you that I saw your video, and I was very moved. You sounded great," Perry says.
"I love you, a lot of people love you and that's why your video got to me and it moved everybody that saw it. I just wanted to send you some love and some light and tell you that I'm thinking about you.
"Keep roaring."
Wise saw Perry's message and, despite not being able to say much, was emotional.
Wise's mother told CTV Toronto that the teen isn't speaking much and is now confined to a bed. But her condition has not dampened her desire to be an inspiration to others.
