A 39-year-old Toronto doctor faces numerous child pornography charges following a raid on his downtown home Thursday.

Toronto police said the man, who is a physician at the Trillium Health Centre in Mississauga, and the Franklin Medical Centre, in Cambridge, has been charged with two counts of possession of child pornography, one count of accessing child pornography, and one count of making child pornography.

Police seized a quantity of computer equipment which allegedly contained child pornography during the raid on the home in the Front Street East and Jarvis Street area.

Kevin Speight is scheduled to appear in College Park court on Friday.

Trillium Health Centre said Speight, who served in the emergency room, has been suspended without pay pending the outcome of the hospital's internal investigation as well as the police investigation and court proceedings.

The hospital also promised to co-operate with police in the investigation.
