Toronto police have arrested two teens in connection with a string of east-end break-and-enters.

At about 5:30 a.m. on Thursday, officers raided a home on Victoria Park Avenue north of Queen Street and took the 17-year-old and 18-year-old male suspects into custody.

Police recovered some stolen items. A search warrant for the house will be issued later today, Sgt. Andy Kitchener told ctvtoronto.ca on Thursday.

A 30-officer task force had been appointed to crack down on the more than 40 nighttime break-ins in the Beaches area of the city that occurred between October and Dec. 1. Uniformed, plain-clothes and canine units have been deployed every night this week as part of the ongoing investigation, Kitchener said.

"We are quite confident that they are the two responsible for the break-and enters," Kitchener told the media on Thursday.

Earlier in the week, police recovered a pair of black, white and red shoes belonging to an intruder as part of the investigation. The suspect was dubbed the "Barefoot Bandit." Many of the break-ins occurred while the homeowners slept between the hours of 2 a.m. and 5 a.m.

The items stolen in recent weeks include laptops, electronic equipment, food and cash, Kitchener said.

The teenage suspects were scheduled to appear in separate courts on Thursday morning.
