Police are combing through evidence to try and help them find whoever stabbed a teenage boy to death and sent another to hospital following an incident Sunday morning in the city's troubled west end.

"We have a lot of ground to cover and a lot of people to speak with," Const. Wendy Drummond of the Toronto Police Service told CTV Toronto on Monday.

"At this point, we don't have a lot of information," but they have possible witnesses to interview and security camera footage to review, she said.

"So it's still a very preliminary investigation," Drummond said.

The deceased young man, Toronto's 21st homicide victim of 2009, was stabbed in the chest early Sunday morning inside an Etobicoke apartment building at 340 Dixon Road near Kipling Avenue.

Police say they were called to the scene just before 5 a.m. after getting reports of gunshots. When they arrived at the scene they found two people suffering from what they called "obvious injuries."

Both victims were taken to hospital but the teen died late Sunday afternoon.

The other victim is recovering from non life-threatening injuries.

Police have not yet officially released the victim's name. They do say the victim did not live in the building, and that there is more than one crime scene involved in this homicide.

Drummond said police haven't received many calls to that condo building, but one resident said it was "horrifying to realize that the youth are killing each other right here in our own building."

Authorities are looking to the public for help. They are asking anyone with information to call the homicide squad at 416-808-7400 or Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS.

There have been a number of homicides in west Toronto this spring. However, while police have said there is some muscling going on between street gangs over control of the drug trade.

However, some of those murdered have no apparent links to street gangs -- or any links to crime whatsoever.
