OSHAWA, Ont. - A tentative agreement has been reached to end a strike by inside workers that began June 19 in Durham Region east of Toronto.
The regional municipality says on its website that a deal for the approximately 1,600 workers was achieved Monday with the help of a mediator.
No details were released, but CUPE Local 1764 has posted a note on Twitter saying a ratification vote will be held today between noon and 11 p.m.
Durham Region says if the deal is approved by the workers, then by the regional council later this week, the employees could be back at work as early as Friday.
The employees provide services in such areas as child care, court services, public health inspections and traffic operations.
Paramedics in Durham Region are also represented by the union, but are required to keep working to provide essential services.
