Mayoral candidate George Smitherman is promising that a subway extension to York University would be completed by 2015 if he is elected.

Outlining a $7-billion transportation infrastructure plan Friday, Smitherman also said LRT routes would be expanded and in use by the beginning of the Toronto Pan-Am Games in 2015, smart cards would be implemented by 2014 and TTC transportation would be free for seniors between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on weekdays.

Smitherman, a former MPP who is campaigning to replace Mayor David Miller, vowed to expand bike lanes along hydro line corridors and through ravines.

Smitherman's so-called Integrated Transportation Plan is to be funded by a trust build from city parking fees and tax revenues.
