TORONTO - Last-minute ticket buyers in Ontario for the Lotto 6/49 Wednesday night draw were out of luck for several hours.
A spokeswoman for Ontario Lottery and Gaming says all 9,000 OLG terminals were down for three hours.
Sarah Kiriliuk says the network connection was down from approximately 5:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m., when terminals started going back online.
That left players a half-hour to buy a ticket for the Wednesday night draw.
It's the latest glitch for the lottery corporation following news of the arrests of three people on charges they stole a winning Super 7 ticket from 2003 and cashed it in.
Police allege a customer bought a Super 7 ticket in St. Catharines and took it to a convenience store in Burlington where it won a free play.
But the customer was never given the free play ticket which then went on to win $12.5-million, police said.
Police allege a father and son who worked at the store and validated the ticket never gave it to the customer but instead gave it to another family member who claimed the prize.
Jun-Chul Chung, 60, Kathleen Chung, 29, and Kenneth Chung, 28, face several charges, including fraud over $5,000 and possession under $5,000.
