Police seek six suspects after Markham financial institution and customers robbed at gunpoint
The York Regional Police (YRP) Hold-Up Unit is on the hunt for six suspects who robbed a financial institution and its customers at gunpoint in Markham on Monday.
Officers responded to a commercial robbery near Markham Road and Highlen Avenue at approximately 5:30 p.m.
Six suspects entered the premises waving firearms and made the customers get down on the ground as they robbed the financial institution and the customers present, police said in a news release.
The suspects fled the scene in a "dark sport utility vehicle" with a "quantity of" stolen cash and cellphones.
One employee was assaulted and taken to a local hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
Three of the suspects were carrying firearms, police said, and all were wearing dark, hooded sweatshirts, gloves and masks in an effort to conceal their identities.
One suspect is described as a black male with a thin build wearing a black, hooded sweatshirt, black pants, black mask and grey shoes.
The second suspect is described as a black male wearing a black, hooded sweatshirt, black pants, black mask, black hat, white socks, blue gloves, and dirty white shoes.
The third suspect was described as a black male with a thin build wearing a black balaclava, grey Nike hooded sweatshirt with matching track pants, blue gloves, black-and-white shoes and carrying a brown and black backpack.
Suspect number four is described as a brown male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants, black mask, red-and-black gloves, black shoes, carrying a blue-and-white bag and a firearm.
Suspect number five is described as a black male with a thin build wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black Nike pants, black mask, white gloves, black shoes, carrying a Jansport backpack and brandishing a firearm.
The last suspect is described as a black male with a thin build wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants, white mask, one yellow and one blue glove, black shoes and waving yet another firearm.
