Police have released images of a suspect they say followed a woman into a restaurant bathroom and brutally sexually assaulted her.

Const. Wendy Drummond says the woman met a man in the Spadina Avenue restaurant in the early morning hours of March 18. The 20-year-old victim said she felt uncomfortable around the man, so went to the bathroom to get away.

The man followed the woman into the washroom, where he punched her in the head several times and then sexually assaulted her. He then left the restaurant.

The woman left the washroom and restaurant sometime later. Some passersby noticed she appeared injured and called police for help.

She was treated for her injuries in hospital and has since been released.

The suspect is described as a white man in his mid-twenties, with brown, shaggy hair and a goatee. He has green/blue eyes, is about five-foot-eight, and was last seen wearing a green t-shirt and jeans. He was carrying a backpack and wearing a green hat
