Peel Regional Police have arrested a suspect in connection with a fatal hit-and-run accident in Brampton on Saturday.

The police credit help from the public in the case of Mandeep Bhagtana, a 40-year-old Brampton man and father of two.

A vehicle struck him shortly before 6 a.m. on Bovaird Drive East in Brampton. Bhagtana died in hospital.

Following tips, investigators found the vehicle allegedly used in the incident -- a white 2005 Chevrolet Impala and a licensed taxi cab.

They located and arrested its driver a short time later.

Makhan Lachhar, 64, has been charged with careless driving and failure to remain at the scene. He has been granted bail on the condition that he not drive. He will be back in court on Dec. 1.
