Durham Regional Police say a search of Whitby's Iona Park failed to provide any clues as to what may have killed a local dog that fell ill after visiting the park last weekend.

Police searched Iona Park on Thursday after a woman came forward to say that her two dogs became seriously ill after visiting the park last Saturday.

One of the dogs died and the other remains seriously ill.

The woman told police that she did not see her dogs ingest anything suspicious while in the park.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 1-888-579-1520, ext. 1833, or to call Durham Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

The latest incident comes days after four dogs became sick after ingesting cupcakes at Poplar Park in Port Perry.

Authorities have still not concluded what was in the cupcakes but a local veterinarian who examined the dogs speculated it may have been anti-freeze or illegal drugs.

Those dogs are expected to make a full recovery.
