One dog has died and another is seriously ill after what police say is a second suspected case of pet poisoning in a Durham region park.
Police have closed down Iona Park in Whitby while investigators search the area for other poisonous substances. Authorities say they are treating the case as a criminal investigation.
The latest incident comes days after four dogs became sick after ingesting cupcakes at Poplar Park.
Authorities have still not concluded what was in the cupcakes but a local veterinarian who examined the dogs speculated it may have been anti-freeze or illegal drugs.
Those dogs are expected to make a full recovery.
