Police are investigating after a pair of Scarborough coffee shops were held up by an armed assailant using their drive-thru early Sunday morning.

The first incident occurred at a Tim Hortons on Ellesmere Road near Brimley Road.

According to police, a male suspect armed with a long knife entered the drive thru and attempted to stab a staff member. The suspect then made off with an unknown quantity of cash.

Nobody was injured as a result.

The second incident occurred at another Tim Hortons on Lawrence Avenue near Markham Road.

In that incident, police say a male suspect armed with a crow bar entered the drive-thru and attempted a robbery, but did not obtain anything.

Police say they have not yet determined whether the two incidents are linked.
