Police are investigating after a three-year-old girl apparently drowned in a residential pool in Hamilton Saturday evening.

Hamilton police said they found the young victim not breathing after answering a 911 call around 7:30 p.m.

The family said the infant had been found lifeless in the home's pool in the Stoney Creek Mountain neighbourhood.

The child was taken to the Henderson Hospital but could not be revived.

The Major Crime Unit, which investigates all deaths of children under 5 years of age, are probing the incident -- but police said so far there's is no indication of foul play.

Police said the name of the child and any other details that may identify the family are not being released at the request of the family.
