Police are investigating after the body of a man was found on the lawn of a Scarborough home.

The 19-year-old man was found by the home owner just before 7:00 a.m. with a gunshot wound to the head, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have not identified the man pending notification of his family, but he is described as being well-known to police for offences related to weapons, ammunition and drugs.

The man is not from the area around Bon Echo Court near Neilson Road and Mclevin Avenue, where his body was discovered.

Earlier in the day police cordoned off several blocks in the neighbourhood, from where the body was found toward nearby Malvern Town Centre shopping mall.

Police found a trail of blood, which could suggest the victim was chased on foot for several blocks before being shot in the yard of the Bon Echo Court home.

Residents in the area told CTV News they are shocked by the violence in the usually "very quiet neighbourhood."

The shooting is the 42nd homicide of the year, and the 25th gun-related death.

Police were going door to door in the area, hoping someone saw something that could lead to the killer or killers.
