Homicide investigators spent most of Sunday combing through a residential street in north Mississauga after someone opened fire at a house party, killing one person.
Peel police were called to an address on Monica Drive, near Steeles Avenue and Goreway Drive in Mississauga's Malton community, at 1:39 a.m. The caller said that shots had been fired inside a house party.
When police arrived at the scene, a male victim was found suffering from gunshot wounds.
Nicarno Anthony Wright, a 22-year-old Brampton resident, was rushed to hospital but he later succumbed to his injuries.
Police say some people fled the party before officers arrived, and that the house party was well attended. Investigators say they want to talk to anybody who was there.
"There may be some in the community who don't know if they have or haven't seen something that's important but it could very well be important to our investigators," Peel police spokesperson Const. Adam Minnion told reporters at the scene.
In the meantime, police cordoned off a path and a park located next to the crime scene. Several homes on the street were also blocked off with police tape.
Police say the neighbourhood is mostly a quiet one, but two years ago, homicide investigators probed a fatal gunfight that also took place on Monica Drive at an after-hours party. A 23-year-old man was killed.
This is also the second fatal house party shooting that Peel police have investigated this month.
On June 6, two people died after a shootout at a house party at a Brampton farmhouse.
