ESSEX, Ont. - A provincial police officer has been charged with a traffic offence after a minor collision at an intersection in Essex, in southwestern Ontario.

Police say the officer was responding to an intruder alarm last Thursday when he entered the intersection and his cruiser was struck by a car.

The marked cruiser had its lights and siren activated, and the intersection was controlled by traffic lights.

No one was injured and both vehicles sustained minor damage.

Following an investigation, Const. Mike Primeau of the Essex detachment has been charged with failing to yield.
