One person is dead after a shooting at a plaza in Scarborough on Saturday evening.

Toronto police said they were called to the area of Midland and Passmore Avenues, south of Steeles Avenue East, at around 6:30 p.m.

When they arrived, officers located a male victim near a vehicle in the parking lot, suffering from serious gunshot wounds.

Police performed CPR on the victim, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The homicide unit has been called to investigate.

Duty Insp. Lori Kranenburg said one suspect was seen fleeing the area on foot. However, no description has been released.

When asked what led to the shooting, Kranenburg said they don't have information on what exactly transpired.

"At this time, this appears to be an isolated incident. I don't have any information that would indicate that there's an ongoing risk to the public," she said.

Officers are in the area canvassing for evidence, Kranenburg said. She is asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact police or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
