The disabled son of a Toronto woman murdered last week is in the care of a respite centre until family members decide how best to care for him.

Lucita Charles, who came to Canada from St. Lucia about five years ago so that her son could receive proper treatment for cerebral palsy, was found stabbed to death in her north end apartment on May 31.

The boy is now in the care of officials at Safe Haven, a Toronto facility that cares for children with multiple disabilities.

Charles' body returned Friday to St. Lucia where a funeral will be held.

NBA star Jaamal Magloire has opened a trust fund to cover the expense of Charles' funeral and care for her son.

Patrick Kirk Barrett has been charged with second degree murder.
