Two men, one of whom faces a homicide charge, face a total of 26 drug and firearms-related charges.

Toronto police said Thursday in a news release that officers, assisted by the major crime unit and emergency task force of 14 Division, had been conducting an investigation two days ago in the Vaughan Road and Oakwood Avenue area.

"Officers saw a man, known to be wanted on an outstanding warrant, walking south on Vaughan Road. He was arrested and a quantity of crack cocaine was found," the release alleged.

"A search warrant was executed at an address in the Vaughan Road/Oakwood Avenue area. A handgun, ammunition, cash and a quantity of drugs were seized. A second man, wanted on an outstanding warrant, was found in the apartment and was arrested."

Police have charged Hassan Mohamed, 22, and Marvin Jarrett, 22 with the following offences:

  • possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking (two counts)
  • possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking
  • possession of marijuana
  • unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
  • possession of a prohibited weapon
  • possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition
  • possession of a firearm obtained by the commission of an offence
  • acquiring a firearm without an F.A.C.
  • careless storage of a firearm
  • careless storage of ammunition

Police had a warrant out for the arrest of Jarrett in connection with the July 25 killing of Sebastian Herrera behind the Brunswick House tavern on Bloor Street in the Annex.

He faces charges of attempted murder and first-degree murder in connection with that incident.

The accused had their court appearances on Wednesday.
