TORONTO - Tourism Minister Michael Chan says he's looking into how an executive with the Niagara Parks Commission was able to rack up nearly $400,000 on his corporate credit card over three years.

The expenses of a recently departed executive, which included a $10,000 hotel bill in England and a $1,800 nightclub tab, are raising eyebrows in the legislature.

Chan says the commission's chairwoman told him about the expenses last week, and he asked her to look into the matter and report back to him.

The minister says the expenses were filed before new rules, introduced in the wake of spending scandals at other Ontario agencies, took effect last year.

But Opposition Leader Tim Hudak says Chan should take responsibility and do more to stop such expenses.

NDP Leader Andrea Horwath says the government needs to make it clear that such expenses are not acceptable.
