A shooting during a holdup at an Eglinton Avenue East jewelry store has left a middle-aged man with non-life-threatening injuries.

The shooting took place shortly after 6 p.m. Monday at Arax Jewellers, located at 660 Eglinton Ave. E, Staff Sgt. Ron Aalen of Toronto Police's 53 Division told CTV Toronto.

That location sits in a shopping plaza located on the north side of Eglinton running east from Bayview Avenue. The business's sign said it has operated since 1971.

The sergeant didn't know whether the shooting took place inside or outside the shop, or if the suspect managed to get away with anything of value.

Aalen said he couldn't say if the store's proprietor was the shooting victim.

"We set up a perimeter. Canine squad attended. Holdup squad attended," he said of the investigation.

There were many potential witnesses on the street. Police are also looking for video that might assist their investigation, Aalen said.
