A man and a woman from the Niagara region are facing several charges in connection with a severely underweight dog that was reported as a stray earlier this month.

The French Mastiff cross-breed, named Minnie, was found in St. Catharines on March 4. The emaciated dog was given immediate medical attention by staff at the Lincoln County Humane Society and has since gained more than six kilograms. Minnie is now in foster care.

Police say the two suspects, both in their 20s, will appear in court in May.
