WALLACEBURG, Ont. - A driver who died after his car ended up in a water-filled ditch in southwestern Ontario has been identified as 72-year-old Donald Martin of Wallaceburg.

Police say Martin died from drowning in the Saturday evening accident near Wallaceburg, about 30 kilometres northwest of Chatham.

The investigation is continuing and includes a mechanical examination of the car, and the circumstances of how it ended up in the ditch.

Chatham-Kent police arrived at the scene around 7 p.m. and found the vehicle upside down in about 1.5 metres of water.

Emergency crews pulled Martin from the car, but he was pronounced dead at the hospital.
