A man was injured jumping from a second-storey window as he escaped a Toronto apartment fire early Friday morning.
Firefighters were called to a three-storey building at 398 College St., just west of Bathurst Street, shortly after 4 a.m. Neighbours reported thick black smoke pouring into the air, and that a tenant was trapped in one of the apartments.
The building, which houses a restaurant and several apartments, was engulfed in flames when they arrived.
More than a dozen fire trucks and 45 firefighters were called in to help gain control of the fire, which was contained after two hours of fighting.
Fire officials told CTV Toronto that two people were injured while escaping the blaze. One man had a head injury after jumping from the second floor to escape the flames. He was rushed to hospital. A second person, the tenant seen trapped in his apartment, was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation after being rescued by firefighters.
Firefighters were still on scene at 7 a.m. putting out hotspots through the building. Investigators have not said what sparked the fire, but said that it originated on the third floor.
