A man in his 20s is in hospital in critical condition following a shooting in a parking garage in the Sheppard Avenue and Don Mills Road area Thursday evening.
Police and EMS were called to an apartment complex at 80 Forest Manor shortly after 7 p.m.
When paramedics arrived they found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. He was rushed to hospital via emergency run with life-threatening injuries.
Police later confirmed the man was shot in the head and the shoulder. He is undergoing surgery in hospital to treat his injuries, police said at a news conference Thursday night.
“I’m not exactly sure of the amount (of shots fired), but it’s more than one for sure,” Det. Mark Charuk told reporters outside the apartment complex.
Charuk said the victim is a male in his 20’s. Police are currently working to confirm his identity. It isn’t clear if he lived at the complex where he was shot.
A woman at the scene named Rose told CP24 her husband saw the victim lying on the ground near the entrance to the parking garage when he returned home from work in his car.
“He saw a man just laying on the floor and a lot of blood was coming out,” she said, translating for her husband, who didn’t speak English.
Other witnesses at the scene told CP24 they heard between four and six shots fired.
No one is in custody and police say they have no suspects so far.
Investigators are currently canvassing the area for witnesses and will be reviewing footage from the parking garage surveillance cameras to try and get a better idea of what happened.
Yellow police tape could be seen cordoning off most of the garage Thursday evening. Police said the garage would remain sealed off as they collected evidence.
Charuk said one vehicle in the garage was damaged, but it wasn’t clear if the damage was related to the shooting.
