WELLINGTON NORTH TOWNSHIP, Ont. - Two men are injured and a horse is dead following a collision between a fertilizer spreader and a horse and buggy in southwestern Ontario.

Provincial police say the collision occurred early Thursday afternoon in Wellington North Township, north of Waterloo.

Police say the eastbound horse and buggy carrying two people collided with a westbound fertilizer spreader.

Investigators say the horse was spooked as the spreader approached and the horse and buggy crossed into the path of the spreader.

One of the occupants from the buggy was transported to hospital in Mount Forest with non-life threatening injuries, while the second was treated at the scene.

The horse died of its injuries at the scene, and the driver of the spreader was not injured.
