An 80-year-old grandmother celebrated her birthday by walking hands-free along the edge of the CN Tower’s main pod on Saturday.

Valerie Aston, a self-admitted thrill-seeker, took a guided tour of the CN Tower's EdgeWalk for her birthday. She was joined by her daughter and granddaughter.

"It was scary and it was wonderful and it was beautiful," Aston told CTV Toronto. "It was the best thing I’ve ever done."

Aston, who is no stranger to heart-pounding feats, says she still has a few more items to tick off on her adventure to-do list.

"I've been on a hot-air balloon…I've been zip lining, so I’ve got a few things left to do."

Aston's love for adrenaline-pumping adventures, however, doesn’t seem to have passed down to her daughter or granddaughter.

"I’m very scared to go up there," Aston's daughter, Megan, told CTV Toronto prior to walking along the 1.5-metre-wide ledge, 116 storeys above the ground.

Aston's granddaughter, Talia Filiaggi, was also nervous.

"I think I’m a little bit better than my mom but definitely not as brave as my granny," Filiaggi told CTV Toronto.

But after the-30 minute walk, Aston’s daughter says she is glad she decided to join her mother in the experience.

"It was everything and more. It was absolutely an adrenaline rush. I was scared to death but really glad I did it," she said.

The CN Tower's EdgeWalk costs $175 and lasts an hour and half, with the walk itself taking approximately 30 minutes. Trained guides are on the ledge with the walkers, who wear safety harnesses and industrial-strength cables attaching them to the tower.
