OAKVILLE, Ont. - An Oakville, Ont. woman has collected almost 3,000 names on a petition calling for improvements to GO Train service.

Patricia Eales says riders no longer have confidence in the GO Train schedule because trains are regularly late or fail to show up.

"There must be some accountability when people are repeatedly left waiting track side," Eales said in a news release.

Her on-line petition, which seeks 40,000 names, calls for a 50 per cent fare rebate when trains are delayed or cancelled due to equipment, staff, rail or other problems.

Eales also seeks better notification of cancellations, modifications and delays and for more cars to be added to trains to ease overcrowding.

The petition will be presented at a GO Transit board meeting March 14, when approval is expected to be given for an adult fare increase of 15 cents per single ride.
