Toronto residents are in for a weather roller coaster on Thursday, with Environment Canada forecasting everything from freezing rain to evening thunderstorms.

Early Thursday morning, the weather agency issued a special weather statement warning residents of the Toronto area that an approaching warm front would bring a "mixed bag of precipitation."

"Some spotty freezing rain is occurring early this morning just ahead of the front," Environment Canada said in a statement sent shortly before 6 a.m.

As temperatures warm up, the statement warned that residents may see the first thunderstorm of the season.

Environment Canada predicts a high of 16 C by 2 p.m., before temperatures dip to 10 C overnight.

There's a 40 per cent chance of showers expected to start in the afternoon, and a risk of thunderstorms from 2 p.m. until 10 p.m. Rainfall may reach 25 millimetres in some areas.

The thunderstorms are not expected to be severe, Environment Canada said.
