TORONTO - Ontario Provincial Police say fewer people in the province were caught talking or texting while driving between May and June.

The most recent figures from June show 496 people were charged under Ontario's distracted driving law.

That's a decrease from 778 charges in May.

A total of almost 3,800 charges have been laid since officers first widely enforced the law this February.

OPP Const. Dave Woodford says officers will wait to see if the June number is a fluke or a trend indicating drivers are getting the message.

The provincial force's numbers do not include charges laid by municipal police forces.
