Police say a man who died in a collision in York Region on Monday morning crossed the centre line into the oncoming lane.

The victim, a male in his early twenties, was driving eastbound on Nashville Road at about 6:30 a.m. when his vehicle somehow crossed into the oncoming lanes. The Sunfire he was driving then hit a pickup truck head-on, said York Regional Police.

The pickup truck's driver received minor injuries and was transported to hospital as a precaution, police said.

Investigators believe a transport truck hauling a load of Wonder Bread along the road, which is south of Bolton, may have had to swerve to avoid hitting the Sunfire. They are looking to speak with that truck's driver and any witnesses who can tell them more about what happened.

Police say they couldn't confirm the man's identity because the car he was travelling in is registered under a woman's name.

The road is expected to be closed for several hours.
