The body of a kayaker who went missing on Friday has been recovered near Brighton, Ont.

Justin Callahan, 29, was kayaking on Lake Ontario with friends after midnight when he fell out of a two-seater vessel.

Callahan's two friends, aged 25 and 24, could not help him back into the boat and he disappeared, Ontario Provincial Police Sergeant Dale Gear said.

The men are believed to have been drinking and took two kayaks without permission from a nearby marina, he said.

One of the men called rescuers from his cell phone. Neighbours arrived with boats to search for Callahan while a helicopter and police divers were dispatched.

Callahan's body was recovered around 9:40 a.m. Saturday.

He was not wearing a life jacket at the time of the incident, Sgt. Gear said.
