Toronto police are offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of a suspect dubbed the "tunnel rat bandit."

The male suspect is believed to have robbed at least eight Toronto-area banks, police said at a news conference Wednesday.

The banks were robbed between Jan. 6 and March 11, Toronto Police Staff Insp. Mike Earl said.

In each case, a man entered the bank branches disguised with a baseball hat, glasses and a scarf. Police said he approached the teller and produced a typed "hold up note" demanding a specific amount of cash.

He indicated he was armed and threatened to harm the employees.

In most cases, he fled the scene through the subway system, leading to the nickname "tunnel rat bandit."

The man has been described as white with a narrow nose and dark hair. He is between 5-foot-9 and 6-feet tall.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 416-808-7350, or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-8477 (TIPS).

Tipsters may be eligible for a reward of $10,000 if they provide information that leads to the man's arrest and conviction.
