The victim of a fatal shooting in Mississauga on Saturday has been identified as a 23-year-old Toronto man, according to Peel police.

The incident occurred just before 4 a.m. on Oct. 22 at 327 Queen Street South, in the Streetsville neighbourhood.

Police dispatchers reportedly heard gunshots in the background of the 911 calls.

“I was awake, calling parking authority when I heard the gunfire,” an area resident named Kelly told CTV Toronto. “It was back and forth, pop pop pop pop. It was a lot.”

A man with obvious signs of trauma was located by officers at the scene. Emergency crews tried to revive the man when they arrived, however he succumbed to his injuries.

The cause of death was consistent with a gunshot wound, police said.

The identity of the victim -- Deshawn Brandon Nicholson -- was released by police on Sunday afternoon.

Police searched for shell casings at the scene and towed a car that had been hit by gunfire. They are still looking to see if there is a link between Nicholson and two other shooting victims. One victim dialed 911 from a gas station that is a five-minute drive from the shooting scene. He is currently in hospital in serious condition.

Another victim walked to a hospital but has since been released.

“We do know at the time there were large number of people at (the) party. We’re still looking for people to come forward to homicide or Peel Crimes Stoppers,” said Peel police Cst. Harinder Sohi.

No suspect information has been released.

Investigators are asking witnesses who were in the area to come forward and to contact the Homicide and Missing Persons Bureau at 905-453-2121.
