Fire crews have extinguished a two-alarm blaze on the fourth floor of an East York building.

Officials said the fire was reported at a building at 500 Dawes Rd., in the area of Victoria Park and St. Clair Avenues, at approximately 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

Toronto Fire Capt. Adrian Ratushniak said the initial report was that the blaze was coming from a fourth floor apartment.

Ratushniak said the people who live in the unit were treated by paramedics for minor smoke inhalation, but no serious injuries have been reported.

He said approximately 75 people were evacuated during the fire, which was extinguished by 8 a.m.
