MAKAWAO, Hawaii - A Canadian tourist has been killed on Maui while riding a rented bicycle.

Maui police say Allyn Parker of Toronto failed to negotiate a curve, crossed a double-yellow line and collided with a Honda Element on Sunday in Makawao.

The 65-year-old was taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the Honda was not injured.

Police say Parker was wearing a helmet.

An investigation is pending to determine whether speed, drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.

This is Maui County's 19th fatality this year, compared to 11 at the same time last year.
