A makeshift memorial is growing along a west-end Toronto street where a pregnant cyclist was struck and killed on Monday.

A collection of candles and flowers can be seen at Dundas Street W. near Sterling Road, where friends and neighbours mourned the death of 38-year-old Jenna Katherine Morrison.

Friends told CTV Toronto that Morrison, a mother of a five-year-old boy, was expecting her second child.

Morrison died after being hit by a truck shortly before noon on Monday. Const. Hugh Smith said it appeared the collision occurred as a truck and the cyclist both turned right from Sterling onto the westbound lanes of Dundas.

Morrison was knocked under the vehicle and pinned under its rear tires.

Morrison's family appealed to the media and public to respect their privacy, but said a statement would be read on Wednesday morning at the corner of Dundas and Sterling where the memorial has sprung up.

Friends created a Facebook page "In Loving memory of Jenna" and have also opened a trust fund for the family of the yoga instructor.

"For those who knew Jenna Katherine Morrison we all should consider ourselves lucky and be grateful for the time we had and know that if Jenna could be here she would hold us all in her arms until we could feel the warmth of her spirit," Shanna Kelly wrote on the Facebook page.

It was the second time this year that a cyclist had been killed on Toronto streets.

On Friday, a cyclist suffered head injuries after he was struck by a vehicle in Toronto's east end.

And last month, Ontario's chief coroner said his office planned to review cycling deaths across the province over the last four years amid growing concern about bicycle safety.

The review will identify and learn from common factors in the deaths from 2006 to 2010. It will be handled by Dr. Dan Cass, regional supervising coroner for the Toronto West Region.

Between 15 and 20 cyclists die in Ontario each year from injuries suffered on their bikes.
