Toronto City Councillor Ana Bailao was charged with impaired driving overnight.

Bailao confirmed the charge in a brief statement released to the media on Tuesday afternoon.

“This situation is regrettable,” Bailao said. “I have been advised by my legal counsel that because this matter is before the courts that I have no further comment.”

A Toronto Police source told CTV News that Bailao was arrested near the downtown intersection of Bathurst and Harbord Streets at approximately 1:45 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Bailao was at city hall for meetings Tuesday.
