A teenage boy was airlifted to Sunnybrook Hospital with a serious head injury after he was struck by a vehicle in Etobicoke Friday afternoon.

The incident took place around 3 p.m. on Renforth Drive, near Eglinton Avenue when the 15-year-old from a local high school was crossing the street. Police said his head hit the windshield and he was thrown into the air. The teen then landed on and smashed the car’s rear window.

Police spokesperson Const. Victor Kwong said the victim was transported on an Ornge air ambulance that landed at a local school, around Eglinton Avenue and Renforth Drive, to take the teen to hospital.

The driver is cooperating with officers, Kwong said. Renforth Drive was closed from Eringate Drive to Eglinton Avenue for the police investigation. The roads were reopened just before 6:30 p.m.
