A 25-year-old Markham man has been charged after he allegedly sexually assaulted a woman he met through a social media application about two years ago.

A 35-year-old woman told police on July 4 that she was sexually assaulted by a man when they met up on June 16.

On that day, the man drove the woman to a house in Markham saying he was offering her an employment opportunity. After the two went inside the house the man allegedly sexually assaulted her.

The victim said she had been talking to the man she knew as ‘Ken’ for nearly two years online before meeting up for the first time.

Police said the suspect – identified Thursday as Shaojun Hu – was later located on a flight from Hong Kong to Toronto with the assistance of the public.

He was arrested less than 24 hours after a photo of a possible suspect in this incident was released.

Hu is now facing one count of sexual assault and is set to appear at a Newmarket court on August 11.
